My science fiction film series, Space on Screen is back at Oakland’s New Parkway Theater.
In September we’ll jump across the cosmos with Stargate, with live introductions in the OpenSpace open-source planetarium software. I’ve worked on ancient Egyptian astronomy programs for 20 years of my career, and am really excited to connect those themes to a great science fiction movie.

Last fall, introducing Fantastic Planet, we started with Voltaire’s Micromegas as an early influence on the science fiction genre. Photo by Mary Holt.
Thanks to the New Parkway Theater for inviting me back! It’s always a delight to be back at my favorite movie theater in the universe (and home of the best milkshakes in the Bay Area).
I’ll also be doing a professional paper at this fall’s Great Lakes Planetarium Association conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan this fall, sharing the results of the positive pairing of science and science fiction that powers this film series.
